In Mallorca December is a mild winter month. After the wet November it gets drier again: there are fewer rain days than in November and in January. The nights are cool.

On average over the years 2011 to 2025, the Palma de Mallorca CMT station reaches 17.8 °C by day and 10.5 °C at night in December. On 4.5 days at least 1 mm of rain falls, adding up to 36.2 mm in the month.

For comparison: in November the average high is 20.3 °C, in January it is 16.3 °C. For rainfall, December ranks number 7 of 12 months. The wettest is November with 87.3 mm, the driest is July with 2.7 mm.

Individual days deviate strongly from the average. The highest value for December in the years 2011 to 2025 was 26.0 °C on 12 December 2023, the lowest 4.2 °C on 2 December 2017.

3Sea temperature in Mallorca in December

Off the Bay of Palma the sea averages 17.0 °C in December. In November it is 20.0 °C, in January 15.4 °C. The sea is still warmer than in March and April, but too cold for a longer swim for most people.

The value comes from the NOAA OISST satellite analysis for open water off the bay, averaged over 2011 to 2025. For this month, 14 rather than 15 years go into the average, because the series has a gap. In shallow coves and right at the beach the water can be warmer or colder.

4What to pack for Mallorca in December

For December you pack a jumper, long trousers and a jacket, plus a light top for sunny hours. Rain protection and sturdy shoes are part of it. A warm layer is comfortable in the evening.

5Which activities suit the weather in December

• Beach: Walks yes, swimming only for the hardy.
• Boat trip: Depends on wind and sea conditions. Ask whether trips run in December.
• Hiking: Good conditions on dry days, and set off early because of the short days.
