Wetter Mallorca · Independent weather site

Data, method and sources of this weather site for Mallorca

This page is an independent information service about the weather in Mallorca. It is not an official weather service and does not belong to any public authority.

Independent and not an official weather service

The site prepares freely accessible weather data for travellers. It takes no measurements of its own and produces no forecasts of its own. It issues no weather warnings.

Official forecasts and warnings for Mallorca are published by the Spanish weather service AEMET. For decisions where safety is at stake, such as mountain tours or boat trips, its information is what counts.

The live forecast

The forecast comes from the Norwegian weather service MET Norway, Locationforecast 2.0 service. The data is under the NLOD 2.0 and CC BY 4.0 licences. Attribution: Data from MET Norway.

The query is for a point in Palma at 39.5696 degrees north and 2.6502 degrees east. The values are summarised per calendar day in local time: warmest and coldest value, total precipitation, strongest mean wind and a weather symbol for the daytime hours. The forecast covers around 9 to 10 days.

If the service cannot be reached, the page shows a notice instead of substitute values.

The climate data

The average values are based on daily values from the Palma de Mallorca CMT station, ID SPE00119882, from the GHCN-Daily dataset of the US weather agency NOAA. The station is located at 39.5556 degrees north and 2.6264 degrees east, 3 m above sea level on the coast, around 2.6 km in a straight line from the queried point in Palma.

NOAA makes GHCN-Daily available without access restrictions. NOAA lists the European dataset ECA&D as the origin of this station's daily values.

The analysis covers the 15 full years from 2011 to 2025, with daily high, low and precipitation. In none of these years are more than 4 per cent of the days missing.

How the average values are produced

  • Daily values in the calendar: For each calendar day, the mean of the highs and of the lows is taken from all years with a reading. 29 February is based only on the four leap years.
  • Rain on the day: The figure given is the share of years in which at least 1 mm of precipitation fell on that date.
  • Monthly values: Each month is averaged separately for every year, and then the average is taken across the years. Rain days are days with at least 1 mm.
  • Missing days: Gaps are not filled in. A month of a given year only counts if values exist for at least 80 per cent of its days. Rain totals are therefore more of a lower limit.
  • Extremes: Highest and lowest values refer only to 2011 to 2025 and are not all-time records.

An average of past years is never presented as a forecast on this site. Where the two appear side by side, they are labelled.

The sea temperature

The sea temperature comes from NOAA OISST, a daily analysis of sea surface temperature on a grid of 0.25 degrees. The grid cell used is centred on 39.375 degrees north and 2.625 degrees east off the Bay of Palma, averaged per month over 2011 to 2025. NOAA states that the data can be freely used and redistributed.

The value describes open water and is not a measurement at the beach.

What is missing from this site

There is no long-term data here on hours of sunshine, wind or humidity, and no values for other places on the island. Anything that cannot be backed by a source that was opened does not appear on the site.

The weather data is not influenced by this. How the site handles visitor data is set out in the privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the weather forecast for Mallorca on this site come from?

From the Norwegian weather service MET Norway, Locationforecast 2.0 service, queried for a point in Palma. The data is under the NLOD 2.0 and CC BY 4.0 licences. The forecast covers around 9 to 10 days.

Which years go into the average values for Mallorca?

The 15 full years from 2011 to 2025. Averages are calculated from them for each calendar day and each month. This is an independent analysis and not an official climate normal over 30 years.

Why do the values for Mallorca differ from other weather sites?

Yes. Some links to activities are affiliate links. When a booking is made through such a link, the site receives a commission. This has no influence on the weather data shown.
