In the south-west of Mallorca, in the municipality of Calvià, Santa Ponsa (Santa Ponça in Catalan) sits at the inner end of a long, narrow bay. Here you find the live forecast for the resort, the monthly averages and what the shape of the bay means for wind on the beach.

## In short

## Weather in Santa Ponsa: live forecast for the bay

MET Norway supplies the forecast below for the point 39.5148 N and 2.482 E near the beach of Santa Ponsa. According to the service's documentation it is based on the global ECMWF model with a grid spacing of about 9 km, updated four times a day. It covers days 0 to 10, and the table goes no further.
The wind column deserves a second look: it gives the day's highest speed in km/h but leaves out the direction. Whether a windy day is unpleasant on the beach at Santa Ponsa depends on exactly that direction, as the section on the bay explains. For the whole island over the coming week there is the [7-day Mallorca weather](https://wettermallorca.com/en/7-day-weather/).

## Santa Ponsa climate in spring and summer

The table lists the high, low, rain days and rainfall for all twelve months, averaged over 2011 to 2025 at the AEMET station Calvià, Es Capdellà. Paguera uses the same station, so the figures are the same for both resorts.
March and April: Spring starts mild. March reaches 18.4 °C by day and 7.3 °C at night, April 21.2 °C with 33.8 mm of rain on 4.2 rain days.

## The bay of Santa Ponsa: which wind reaches the beach

Santa Ponsa sits on a long bay with steep rocky sides, and according to the German Wikipedia the sandy beach lies at its head. The mouth lies about 1.2 km west of the beach, between Punta des Castellot to the north and the Creu del Desembarcament to the south. So the bay opens to the sea towards the west.
For the wind this means: from the west it blows the length of the bay straight onto the sand. A northerly first meets the built-up north shore and does not hit the beach head-on. Separately, Visit Calvià, the municipality's tourism site, advises boats anchored in the bay to move into the harbour when the wind is from the south, south-east or east.
On the south shore lies the small Caló d'en Pellicer at the foot of Puig de sa Morisca. In the Caleta next to it the marina was built in 1975, and according to the Catalan Wikipedia it is no longer used for swimming.

## Santa Ponsa in September: Rei en Jaume and the landing of 1229

On 10 September 1229, according to the German and Catalan Wikipedia, King Jaume I landed near Santa Ponsa and so began the conquest of Mallorca. The English Wikipedia gives 12 September. The Creu del Desembarcament, also called Creu del Rei en Jaume, recalls it: a cross at the harbour entrance, 1.4 km west of the resort centre. At the Rei en Jaume festival in September the battle is re-enacted on the beach.
At festival time Santa Ponsa averages 28.7 °C by day and 17.4 °C at night in September. The page on [Mallorca weather in September](https://wettermallorca.com/en/september/) covers the month for the whole island.
South of the resort, on a hill 120 m high, lies the Puig de sa Morisca archaeological park. It preserves the remains of a Talayotic settlement that according to the German Wikipedia was inhabited from about 1200 BC.

## Sea temperature in Santa Ponsa from May to September

In May the sea off Santa Ponsa averages 18.9 °C, in June already 22.8 °C. In July it rises to 25.8 °C. September, at 25.9 °C, is even a touch warmer than July.
Outside August, that makes July and September the months with the warmest water. The figures are a satellite analysis for open sea, not a measurement at the beach. Where the bay runs shallow, the water can differ from it either way. For the rest of the coast see [sea temperature in Mallorca](https://wettermallorca.com/en/sea-temperature/).

## Where the Santa Ponsa figures come from

AEMET has no station of its own in Santa Ponsa. The monthly averages come from B158X Calvià, Es Capdellà, 50 m above the sea and 4.3 km in a straight line north of the resort. Paguera is 1.9 km from the same station and therefore gets the same averages.
AEMET OpenData supplies the daily readings, here for the years 2011 to 2025. In April and July only 14 complete years went into temperature and rain, as they did for rain in September, and all 15 for the other values named in the text. A day with 1 mm of precipitation or more counts as a rain day.
The sea temperature comes from NOAA OISST v2.1. The 0.25 degree grid cell, whose centre lies at 39.625 N and 2.375 E, is 15.3 km north-west of Santa Ponsa. How the capital's climate differs is shown on the page about [weather in Palma](https://wettermallorca.com/en/palma/).
