The Spanish Wikipedia lists Les Meravelles, Ses Cadenes and Son Verí Nou among the districts that adjoin El Arenal directly. The town belongs to two municipalities. The northern part lies in Palma, the southern, older part in Llucmajor. Between them runs the Torrent des Jueus. At the start of 2011 S'Arenal had 16,709 registered residents, 10,041 of them in Llucmajor and 6,668 in Palma. ## Harbour and balnearios: El Arenal by the water El Arenal began as a small sheltered harbour for fishermen. According to Wikipedia the place is first recorded in 1887, with 21 inhabitants. Today it has a marina with 630 berths and the Club Nàutic Arenal. Of the 15 balnearios on Playa de Palma, numbers 1 to 3 lie in the town itself, according to Wikipedia. The best known, Balneario 6, stands further north-west in the Ses Cadenes area, which the Wikipedia article on Ballermann 6 counts as part of S'Arenal. German-speaking visitors call it Ballermann 6, and the word Ballermann has been in the Duden dictionary since 2004.
